BloodLines: Art and the Horse
August 30 - October 19
Exhibitions on the theme of the horse have been few and far between. This is surprising, considering the status of the horse as a national cultural icon: from The Man From Snowy River to 'the race that stops a nation', the horse has played an important role in Australian culture and identity. This is reflected in the number of significant artworks produced by Australian artists and in the number of contemporary artists who are attracted to the horse as a subject for study. BloodLines features over 200 works covering a wide spectrum of traditional, contemporary and outsider art including new work by some of Australia's most exciting contemporary artists.
