The Cbus Collection of Australian Art comprises more than 300 works, dating from the mid 1800s to the early 2000s. Cbus is the superannuation fund for the construction and building industry and represents hundreds of thousands of workers.

Essential presents a selection of works from artists who have re-shaped their visual worlds to extract an underlying essence for expressive purposes. Artists include John Passmore, Hilarie Mais, Robert Hunter, Kenneth Whisson and Mary Cecil Allen who provide insightful interpretations of literal objects and the natural world pared down to abstract form.
