Through Children's Eyes
27 June - 24 July 2009
Through Children’s Eyes is a photographic exhibition by children of Papua New Guinea and Australian communities. Organised by the not-for-profit agency ChildFund Australia, this project has encouraged children aged 9 – 14 to document what is important in their world. Photographs of family, friends, home, animals, community, activities and school provide an insight into what is valuable for these children from two cultures.
More than just a collection of thought-provoking photographs, Through Children’s Eyes empowers the participants in a number of ways; by providing them with a new skill (operating a digital camera) and more importantly, a platform in which to express themselves as well as be heard and seen. As an exercise in breaking down barriers it also offers the opportunity for two cultural groups to see one another, perhaps for the first time. |
